Test Engineer (QA)

The Role:

We are looking for a Test Engineer to join our amazing team.  Our mission is to analyze risk, explore unknowns, and give confidence to decision makers.  Simply stated, quality is our passion.

The Duties:

  • Oversee development of project test strategy
  • Create, execute, and analyze manual test cases based on business requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Active participant in all scrum ceremony events (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and team retrospectives)
  • Collaborate with developers in code reviews, design reviews, TDD, etc.
  • Advance test automation by ensuring that repeatable tests are automated
  • Perform various types of testing that include, but are not limited to, functional, system integration, regression, and exploratory
  • Accurately report defects that are found during testing
  • Perform root cause analysis on critical, production defects
  • Coordinate testing efforts for projects as needed
  • Become a subject matter expert with systems and applications
  • Create release certification reports for production release deploys
  • Approve production change requests
  • Collaborate with testers and test leads on cross-functional projects
  • Onboarding and mentoring of testers
  • Follow Test Engineering policies and processes in day-to-day tasks
  • Participate in the hiring process with test management
  • Work with test leadership to improve existing processes, implementing new tools, etc.

Skills You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in CIS, Business, Engineering, or Mathematics and 3-5 years professional QA experience (5+ years professional QA experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle and core software testing concepts
  • Experience with making testing decisions for mid-size projects
  • Experience with software development frameworks including agile Scrum, Kanban, XP, and waterfall
  • Demonstrated experience leading the testing effort for small to mid-sized projects
  • Excellent understanding of database concepts and ability to write complex database queries
  • Experience with functional, API, and services test automation is preferred
  • Experience with Java or a similar programming language is preferred
  • Strong decision-making, organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Capable of communicating with manager-level leadership throughout the organization
  • Ability to work both independently and in a Scrum team environment is a must
  • Previous experience as a test lead on a multi-tester project is a plus
  • Capable of soliciting feedback from peers for purposes of self-awareness and self-improvement
  • Capable of proving constructive feedback to the others
  • Proficient experience in the hospitality industry
