Job Description

The Information/Instructional Designer role is primarily responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of a wide variety of external and internal training material including eLearning, video, Instructor and Participant Guides, PowerPoints, and other customer-facing support and/or adult learning content.

  • Gathers information from subject matter experts, technical documentation, hardware/software demonstrations, application testing, functional specifications, available guides and hands-on experience as the basis for the training. The source of materials may require research or may be provided in a comprehensive form.
  • Works with process owners to understand and capture processes and procedures
  • Conducts training needs analysis, evaluates and recommends delivery alternatives, designs and develops supplementary training material for classroom or virtual (e-learning, videos, webinars, webcasts) delivery, composes assessments and evaluation/feedback gathering tools. Provides on-going maintenance of a variety of training topics/curricula.
  • Plans, organizes, designs, and produces material in a user-friendly and easy to understand format following the SITA documentation standards and/or adult learning principles.
  • Maintains current knowledge of adult learning and instructional design trends through participation in functional knowledge sharing, formal learning or social learning opportunities.
  • Load and maintain content in Learning Management System
    • Ability to learn technical concepts quickly
    • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong attention to spelling, grammar, voice, and formatting according to defined styles
    • Understanding of HTML or related formats and standards with technical help authoring tools, such as MadCap Flare, FrameMaker, Camtasia, Articulate, etc
    • Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) online help concepts, help-authoring tools or eLearning authoring tools
    • Experience in assessing requirements to determine training needs
    • Experience utilizing a graphic design and video editing software, such as Adobe Creative Suite
    • Proficient in the use of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Working knowledge of Adult Learning Principles and course development skills
    • The ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
    • Manage time effectively and deliver results in a timely manner
