We have an immediate opening for a Network Administrator/Engineer III. Position will be in Portsmouth, OH and cannot be remote. We are looking to fill this with a contract-to-hire person.  I am working on who the person will report to in OH, and the rest of the IT team in that location.  It is a midway point among four major cities: Charleston, West VirginiaCincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; and Lexington, Kentucky, each of which are approximately ninety miles away (roughly a two-hour drive).

Senior Network Administrator Job Description

The Senior Network Administrator will plan the future growth and expansion of the network, and will be responsible for maintaining current systems and keeping IT staff updated on the latest tools and processes. The ideal candidate for this position is certified to work with Cisco networking equipment, is well-versed with Dell EMC VxRail Hyperconverged infrastructure, and is able to create and manage access control lists.

The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for providing system- and network-related solutions for their organization's information-technology assets. They oversee the functioning of networking equipment and follow strict maintenance standards. Their experience in the IT and networking fields is also used to develop new strategies to optimize server operation. They work with other IT team members, supervisors, and end-users to work on connectivity problems. The Senior Network Administrator will coordinate administrative rules among different credential groups. They may also create training sessions for employees to increase knowledge and productivity related to computer networks. Senior network administrators facilitate email systems, as well as configure desktop development alternatives. They also manage computer parts inventory for their areas of concern and recycle parts as needed. They carry out upgrade procedures and must have knowledge of security bugs and possible privacy risks.

A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information technology, or a similar field is required for this position. Several years of previous work experience in a comparable job is necessary. Additional field certifications are a plus. IT senior network administrator must have experience with large-scale projects and must be able to multitask by working on several projects at once.

Senior Network Administrator Job Duties

  • Maintain, monitor, and completely manage networks (LAN, WAN)
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers and other network devices
  • Monitor network performance and integrity
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
  • Mentor and train team members on technical issues
  • Create, oversee, and test security measures (e.g. access authorization, disaster recover, etc.)
  • Communicate with users when needed
  • Maintain complete technical documentation
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability
  • Work closely with departmental managers to determine network needs and plan for network changes

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience required
  • 4+ years successful network troubleshooting experience
  • Must be able to complete complex projects with minimal supervision
  • Proven experience managing a large and complex network
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Strong safety record and a history of establishing safe work practices
