SQL Database Administrator
Hickory, NC or Lawrenceville, GA Remote
Contract to Hire

Job Summary:   
Technical position responsible for the configuration, installation, operations, support and security of the Company’s databases.  Position requires both SQL Server operations and Business Intelligence development skills.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan, configure, install, support, and performance tune all database instances
  • Repair and improve the extraction, transformation and loading code (ETL) used to load the data warehouse using MS development tools and SQL Server Integration Services as needed
  • Create and maintain SQL Server Reports using Microsoft development stack and SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Create, validate and maintain SQL Server Analysis Cubes using MS development tools and SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Responsible for the planning, configuration, installation, performance and support of all database instances
  • Performs activities related to the maintenance, design and development of the SQL Server business intelligence systems.  This includes primarily data extraction and loading and all aspects of report and dashboard development

  • Create and maintain SQL Server Reports using Microsoft development stack and SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Create, validate and maintain SQL Server Analysis Cubes using MS development tools and SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Provide analysis, consultation, and support to internal customers, IT staff, and other departments as needed
  • Applies database system modifications, patches and upgrades in a manner consistent with change control policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the security and integrity of all database instances
  • Sets up and maintains user profiles and user access levels within database instances
  • Works with IT and functional staff to plan, implement and maintain proper procedures for backup, recovery and availability of database instances
  • Provides support in applicable areas during business hours and as needed during non-business hours
  • Other support-related duties as assigned

Essential Skills:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, (2012 a plus) transactional systems management
  • Optimizing databases for performance (indexes, partitions, configurations)
  • Large data storage solution management
  • Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence systems operation and maintenance
  • Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services Cube development and maintenance
  • Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services ETL process development and maintenance

Desired Skills:

  • Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2 configuration and administration
  • SAN Storage Administration
  • Business Analysis
  • Windows Server Failover Clustering configuration and administration
  • Microsoft SQL Server Replication
  • System Virtualization (VMWare, Xen, Hyper-V)
  • Microsoft SharePoint administration
  • Functional knowledge of JD Edwards database structure
  • Working knowledge of AS/400 and DB2

Education:
Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.

Must Have:

  • Two to three years experience as a SQL database administrator
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Ability to work independently and to manage a variety of tasks while also being able to work in a team environment
  • Strong work ethic supported by solid time-management skills
  • Strong ability to analyze user requirements and build reporting solutions such as relational database reports, OLAP reporting, dashboards, and scorecards
  • Experience with MS SQL server suite: SQL server, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS
  • Fluent in designing OLAP cubes and associated relational model
  • Fluent in writing advanced MDX and T-SQL queries

DB Admin skills:

  • Experience with MS SQL Server 2005, 2008, (2012 a plus)
  • Experience with optimizing databases for speed (indexes, partitions, configurations)
  • Experience dealing with large amounts of data storage solutions
  • Experience with clustered solutions and Replication
  • Experience with virtualized database environments
