Lead Data Warehouse Developer

The Lead Developer is responsible for leading ETL and BI development teams to build business focused information systems that are stable, scalable, and fast.  The incumbent will guide data system architecture with an emphasis on business efficiency and empathy for BI and Analytics end users.  Candidate will assume ownership of all external data transfers, data warehouse loads, and enterprise reporting.


  • Continuously improve the reliability and transparency of all external data transfers, data warehouse loads, and BI reporting
  • Provide guidance to development teams in a way that balances intuition that is forward-thinking and anticipatory with a sense of urgency to deliver business value
  • Facilitate data architecture and ETL design discussions to minimize complexity and streamline recoverability
  • Contribute to IT Architecture Review Board meetings, protecting the interests of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence users
  • Spend 60-80% of the week developing, testing, and implementing T-SQL, PowerShell, C#, Hadoop/Hive, PowerBI/Apps, SSIS, SSRS, and related software
  • Assist in identifying, driving, and enforcing best class practices for change control, testing, information security, and data governance, making use of DevOps principals and the latest in cloud technology
  • Motivate ETL and BI Developers to pursue GLS stakeholder interests while furthering their career paths
  • Foster a collaborative culture that facilitates the achievement of business plan objectives by working closely with other associates and members of management
  • Develop new and enhance existing standards and frameworks that are support and demonstrate a strong mental acumen approach to handling exponential company growth
  • Participate in special projects as needed
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by management


  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree required.  Internal candidates with commensurate experience and a track record of sustained, top performance against company standards may be considered
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with high proficiency in ETL, BI, Data Architecture, and Business Analytics
  • Experience developing and implementing analytics databases in a mature Financial Services IT organization
  • Experience with data governance and enterprise data management
  • Experience with modern data encryption standards and secure data exchange processes
  • Experience working in an analytics or data-focused role in a non-IT business unit
  • Experience with vendor negotiation and management including writing or modifying effective and protective SOWs
  • Experience building, managing, developing and motivating teams with the ability to quantify improvements in team performance
  • Experience managing and owning overnight or 24/7/365 ETL processes
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies and functional capabilities
  • Working knowledge of “Big Data” software (Hadoop/Hive/Pig/etc.), and use of unstructured or semi-structured data (XML/JSON)
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell or Bash
  • Working knowledge of change control standards and audit principals for analytics data warehousing and BI
  • Intrinsically self-motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, see recommendations through implementation, and evaluate improvements for effectiveness
