Junior Ruby on Rails Engineer

Contract to Hire or Direct Hire

Our client provides a SaaS platform for property management companies to manage training and compliance for their employees. We help the multifamily housing industry keep up with regulatory requirements through online courses provided by a modern LMS platform. They are a great company with great employee benefits and pride themselves on maintaining an awesome working environment for developers. They are looking to hire Junior level Ruby on Rails engineer for full time work via a direct hire or contract-to-hire. This position is for a junior to mid-level developer with a passion for learning and problem-solving skills plus some real-world experience with Ruby on Rails. This position is focused on back end development; however, knowledge and experience with frontend development and other languages is a plus. The position will work with a small, highly motivated team in an office in downtown Greenville, SC with the option to work remotely part of the time. A developer who has experience using AWS (Amazon Web Services) is a big plus. Experience writing automated tests with Rspec is preferred. The developer will assist with new features and maintenance to an existing platform.

What you will be doing:

  • Maintain a production Ruby on Rails application
  • Develop new features following product and technical specifications
  • Work in an issue tracker to analyze, discuss, and document issues Investigate, document, and repair application defects
  • Deploy new software releases and maintain devops
  • Collaborate with other developers, QA, and product stakeholders
  • Write automated tests in RSpec
  • Perform code review for other developers' changes
  • Follow a lean agile process using Kanban
  • Recommend improvements to application architecture

Must Have:

  • Backend web development experience
  • Beginner to intermediate Ruby on Rails skills
  • Web technologies such as JavaScript 6/7, CSS3 and HTML 5
  • Experience with MySQL database or other SQL-based database
  • Experience working in an AWS - Amazon Web Services environment experience desired
  • Ability to work with multiple languages is desired
  • Light domestic travel may be required
  • Attention to detail and persistence Ability to keep track of different projects
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-directed
