Infrastructure Analyst

This is a front line analyst position responsible for monitoring and managing a large enterprise company’s distributed computing environment involving IBM mainframe, Windows servers, Unix/Linux servers, web applications, Enterprise Storage, and ORACLE/SQL databases. This includes monitoring, diagnosis, and resolution.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • The analyst will work in a newly remodeled Infrastructure Operations Center alongside other analysts, monitoring the computing environment, troubleshooting issues, and communicate via phone with other support teams.
  • Monitor scheduled batch jobs in AutoSys and take action in case of failures.
  • Respond to system alerts coming from Netcool by following troubleshooting procedures.
  • Create, document, dispatch, and close incidents via Remedy.

Must Haves:

  • Troubleshooting skills for Windows, Unix/Linux, and Web environments.
  • This position is to cover the weekend night shift: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7 PM to 7 AM. However, for the first two weeks, the successful candidate may have to come in for training on weekdays.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the functionality of infrastructure event management tools; in addition to the support tools and resources available to the frontline for resolving problems.
  • Ability to interface and coordinate repair efforts with external vendors and companies that are utilized as partners or service providers.
  • Responsible for working as a team with multiple Southern Company systems groups and the Technology Organization to ensure the overall integrity of the computing/mainframe networks.
  • Provide centralized monitoring, first line problem diagnosis and resolution for computing systems and mainframe technologies including batch streams on mainframe and computing systems.
  • When responding to events, the front line Analyst must carefully track and document all issues and resolutions in detail as a permanent record.
  • Monitor backup processes associated with disaster recovery for business-critical applications.•Provide first line problem determination and recovery for abnormal endings (abends) associated with applications. 
  • Continuously identify process improvement opportunities with front line tools, processes, and documentation.
