IP/IX Network Engineer

The company provides mission-critical data center facilities that protect and ensure the continued operation of IT infrastructure for hundreds of customers, including many of the Fortune 20 the Fortune 1000 lists of enterprise companies.

This position will be a key member of our team of engineers that is responsible for the delivery and operation of our customer facing IP and interconnection network. This position will be responsible for the design, installation and support of complex network topologies on a primarily Cisco based infrastructure.

What You Will Be Doing:   

  • Establish a highly scalable, secure, and robust networking environment utilizing Cisco products
  • Provide network design and implementation strategies, migration strategies, and technical project support for medium to high complexity projects
  • Create and promote a reference architecture in order to detail the how and why of all implementations
  • Continually challenge existing standards and introduce new standards to be incorporated into a reference architecture
  • Review network installations, defining, documenting, and enforcing established company standards
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 to provide tier 3 technical support for Network Operations on complex networking issues
  • Develop, perfect, and review detailed methods of procedure for simple to complex network changes to be executed by other teams
  • Maximize network reliability by monitoring logs, evaluating network connectivity requests, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with peers to identify issues before they impact service
  • Report overall network capacity by managing and developing utilization thresholds
  • Develop, implement and test network management and alerting procedures
  • Communicate assigned project and task status with accuracy and with sensitivity to deadlines
  • Participate in and lead other team meetings as required by project demand
  • Maintain multiple lab environments for testing and staging
  • Evaluate new network products, and procedures as available
  • Actively participate in the company change management process
  • Manage assigned tickets via company ticketing system, ensuring that updates are frequent and well-constructed

Must Haves:

  • Highly skilled network engineer with extensive proficiency and ability to work on multiple complex projects
  • Significant experience and demonstrable technical skills in the following areas:
  1. IPv4; IPv6
  2. BGP; ISIS
  4. SNMP; SSH; AAA; NetFlow
  • Extensive hands on working knowledge of platforms such as the following:
  1. Cisco ASR9000 Series
  2. Cisco IOS XR 6.x
  3. Cisco NCS5000 (As a satellite preferred)
  • Familiarity and understanding of platforms such as the following:
  1. Juniper MX Series
  2. Juniper JUNOS 15.x
  3. Brocade MLX Series
  4. Brocade NetIron Software
  • Extensive use of monitoring, testing and packet capturing tools such as the following:
  1. Solarwinds
  2. Kibana
  3. Kentik
  4. Arbor
  5. Wireshark
  • Ability to write detailed technical procedures and maintain exact documentation including creation of Visio drawings
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex connectivity problems and resolve to network events rapidly
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills,
  • Capability to schedule time with flexibility to handle varying workload, and still meet tight deadlines, with the ability multi-task and work multiple projects simultaneously
  • High level of attention to detail and customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision making, presentation and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with ITIL concepts and how they can be applied to the network engineering realm

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • CCNP or equivalent
  • Five or more years of experience as a senior/lead/principal network engineer
  • Strong can-do attitude in a time sensitive operational environment
  • Technical experience with Service Provider Routing and Switching, MPLS and VPLS
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or MBA
  • CCIE or equivalent

  • **Travel is required on occasion as dictated by project load
  • **This position requires typical weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance, at times afterhours work may require to meet business and customer needs
  • **This position requires participation in on call rotation to provide 24/7 support
