Job Description

Position Overview: 

This individual must have experience providing support for servers, networks in a complex production data center infrastructure environments. The duties of this position are to prepare, implement and maintain servers and networking hardware in a large-sized, heterogeneous computing environment made up of standalone, virtualized, and clustered servers. 


• Server installation, support and administration including: physical installation and setup of server / network appliance / SAN hardware, cabling, and troubleshooting 
• Assist with the maintenance of inventory databases for all equipment including hardware, software, node/ip addresses etc 
• Basic understanding of various environments such as AD/LDAP, SAN, SQL, backup, monitoring, clustering and HA environments 
• Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration teams to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of systems and infrastructure to meet company objectives 
• Assist storage teams from a hardware standpoint with the management of NAS and SAN storage arrays, SAN switch fabric and server storage allocation requirements 
• Assist remote based network engineering and platform services teams to perform hardware and software maintenance on equipment located in the data centers 
• Utilize change management systems to properly schedule and document infrastructure changes 
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures in regards to configurations, installations and systems for IT staff 
• Work to meet or exceed team based SLA's and KPI's around delivery and support 
• Work with a team of project managers, project coordinators and inventory specialists to ensure successful delivery of server, network and data center based projects • Communicate with colleagues, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous professional manner. 
• Cooperative with all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. 
• Follow all safety rules. 

Skills and Abilities Required: 

• Must be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision. 
• Must be able to learn and understand new technologies quickly. 
• Demonstrated experience installing, administering, maintaining and troubleshooting server and network hardware 
• Dependable technical knowledge and experience supporting servers and infrastructure devices in a production level data center with a complex TCP/IP network 
• Proficient knowledge of computer systems and connectivity requirements for the installation and maintenance of data center infrastructure components 
• Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, adaptability and skills in recognizing politically sensitive situations 
• Exceptional administrative and communication skills, both written and verbal 
• Excellent problem solving skills, ability to take ownership of the work assigned, and deliver results timely, reliably and correctly 
• Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-pace environment with constantly changing priorities 


• Proficient knowledge of LAN, WAN; vendor evaluations. Any technical certifications and/or technical training highly desirable. 
• Excellent problem resolution skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a wide range of users. Ability to design workable solutions to problems in a timely manner. 
• Significant experience with multiple versions of Microsoft Windows including demonstrated expertise in physical hardware installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance 
• Experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting various models of HP, Dell, Sunfire and IBM server hardware 
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds to perform the physical installation and decommissioning of equipment including servers, network components and data center infrastructure gear 

Work Experience and Education Guidelines: 

• Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in Computer Science or related field or related experience 
• 2+ years direct work experience in data center support role 
• Exceptional experience working with server, network, storage and communications equipment, protocols (i.e. DNS and TCPIP), and network management practice 

Preferred, but not required: 
• Related certifications : A+, Network+, MCP 
• Hardware certifications: HP G Series (mainly G6 & G7) certifications, IBM iDataplex, Dell and Blade server related certifications 
• Familiarity with IPAM, Remedy, ServiceNow, SharePoint and basic Microsoft technologies
