Business Program Manager

Ft. Worth, TX

This position will be responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of strategic initiatives for Engineering Systems and Maintenance Planning. This role is one that requires strong strategic planning, cross functional coordination, and communication skills to every level of the organization, including C-level stakeholders. The ability to interface both with Business partners and technology teams is essential. The ability to look across multiple cross-functional business domains and develop robust solutions, system flows, and business process models for projects is essential. The Program Manager should have the skillset to plan and conduct strategic planning sessions and facilitate organizational change. The Program Manager should be comfortable working in ambiguity and provide recommendations for organization and clarity in an environment that has several strategic opportunities. The position will be keenly focused on ensuring that projects across the portfolio are aligned with overall organizational strategy and ROI expectations.

The Program Manager will work to ensure that systems function appropriately to address business needs and are technically sound. A thorough knowledge of software development practices, concepts, technology and methodology obtained through formal training, education, and/or work experience is required. Must have experience working on projects with multiple technical and business domains and should have thorough knowledge of business processes to document and trace business requirements through the software development life-cycle.

The Program Manager will need to demonstrate that they can work with multiple teams and stakeholders simultaneously and with proficiency. Teamwork, strong relationship management and collaboration skills are critical to this role.

The Program Manager will work closely with the Technology Services Program Manager to ensure the identified business opportunities are tracked and prioritized. The Program Manager will also work with Enterprise Architects to ensure workload, production planning and capacity is understood and any issues are mitigated. The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring all key metrics defined, tracked and reported accurately to leadership, including opportunities, development, production and other key areas identified by the Business.

The Program Manager will partner with other stakeholders across the BNSF organization, including Business groups, Network Systems, GIS, Security and Compliance to ensure client is adhering to risk controls, security and compliance procedures. The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating activities, agenda items and follow ups and ensuring that proper documents are updated based on agreed upon timelines.

Essential Functions

  • Effectively communicate to all levels of the organization including Director and VP level communications
  • Engage business partners to evolve business processes and technology solutions
  • Build partnerships, based on trust and transparency, with business units to understand and document business needs/requirements
  • Conduct facilitated sessions or interviews to gather and document requirements
  • Lead and influences the project team in aligning the resources necessary to analyze, define, design, and develop solutions for complex business problems
  • Analyze, review, develop business case and participate in the development of the implementation plan
  • Collaborate with cross functional project teams to identify, remediate, and escalate project delivery challenges
  • Demonstrate clear, concise verbal and written communication skills in meetings, facilitated sessions, and presentations
  • Prepare clear, concise deliverables for projects
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Identify new business solutions and appropriately communicate and build support for solutions across multiple business domains
  • Ability to drive and influence projects from both a tactical and strategic perspective
  • Assist and support organizational change management
  • Identify and communicate issues, risks and dependencies
  • Ability to resolve project issues effectively
  • Ensure that projects follow standard policy, procedures, and methodology
  • Support project change management processes and procedures
  • Lead project contingency planning through risk identification, prioritization and response planning
  • Oversee procurement processes involved in projects including developing RFI/RFP, developing strategy and approach for scoring/evaluation, management of the procurement process, and successful vendor relationship management and communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience
  • Project Manager (Project Management Professional) or Program Management Professional (PgMP)® Certification
  • Business Analyst experience leading infrastructure implementations, systems integration, or application development
  • One or more Agile certifications:
    • SAFe Agilist (SA)
    • CSM (Certified Scrum Master)
    • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)
    • PSM (Professional Scrum Master)
    • PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
  • 10+ years in managing projects (Multiple methodologies)
  • 5+ years leading large scale transformation programs, involving business process and change, organization change, and multiple large scale technology components
  • Experience in business and solution development, project management, and project delivery
  • Strong understanding of the system development life cycle
  • Proficient in SharePoint, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project
  • Experience working with vendors/partners to deliver projects
  • Experience developing complex, project plans to meet business objectives
  • Experience developing and managing large project budgets
  • Proven experience in project change management

Preferred Education, Experience, Skills

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university (MBA, Information Systems or Computer Science)
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®)
  • A background in Portfolio Management
  • Transportation industry/railroad experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct people management experience
